In haar video installaties en tekeningen onderzoekt Saskia Burggraaf hoe sociale regels uit de massacultuur werken. De keuze om daar van af te wijken in haar werk en dagelijks leven, geeft haar bewustwording van wie zij is en haar rol als kunstenaar. Haar werk komt voort uit een fascinatie over de verhouding tussen het individu en de collectieve identiteit. Zij legt in haar werk de nadruk op ‘het alternatieve’; plekken waar andere sociale regels gelden dan daarbuiten. Een ‘heterotopie’ die reageert op de maatschappij, die ontstaan is dóór deze maatschappij, maar er ook weer van af wijkt. Door met deze aspecten te spelen, stel ze zichzelf en het publiek de vraag of wij nog wel dichtbij onze natuurlijke instincten staan.

The Royal Academy of Art graduation exhibition 2012 takes place from Saturday the 30th of June (diploma presentation) till Saturday the 7th of July. The building at the Prinsessegracht 4 in The Hague will be one large exhibition area during this week.
The graduation exhibition shows works of approximately 200 students who graduate this year at ArtScience, Fine Arts, Photography, Graphic Design, Interior Architecture and Furniture design, Interactive/Media/Design, Textile and Fashion, Master Type&Media, Master Artistic Research and the Post Graduate Industrial Design.
